Freaky Friday: MAMA

Guess who is on the blog today? It is Super Agent, Jenn! Woot! She has a doozy of a review for you on the new horror flick in theaters now...MAMA. If that's not enough, she stayed off the caffeine to write this post, which personally, I think deserves a medal...and coffee reward! Now, here's Jenn to give us the scoop...

As a frequent viewer of horror movies, I went to MAMA eagerly anticipating a fast paced, well written movie with a horrifying evil presence. I got a fast paced movie with a horrifying evil ghost lady called MAMA, by the other equally horrifying small child called, Lilly. Seriously, she was creepier than MAMA.

Perhaps it’s the agent in me but I couldn’t get over the weird mess that was the opening of the movie nor could I get over the fact that Annie, played by Jessica Chastain, is an emo-rocker chick who has a heart but is trying too hard to be an emo-rocker. Not believable. And having Jaime Lannister as Uncle Luke was pretty cool however [Spoiler Alert: Highlight with mouse to see] he is incapacitated quickly by MAMA, which was not that cool.

Authenticity, man. Genuine emo.

MAMA had great scares but too many minor plots that got in the way and screamed THIS IS IMPORTANT PAY ATTENTION I’M SO OBVIOUSLY CONNECTED TO THE MAIN STORY! Really turned me off of the movie.

And finally the ending was atrocious. Don’t get me started, lots of spoilers! [Spoiler Alert: Highlight with mouse to see] Uncle Luke is sent on a mission by the ghost of his dead twin brother and nothing comes of it. At all. But yet, he ends up exactly where Annie is with her Scooby Van. And the creepy children are on a mountain and the family kind of crumbles and MAMA doesn’t play by ghost rules and it gets so ridiculous that you are laughing while friends are shushing you.

RATING: All in all I give it a C. Only redeeming quality was the acting by the small child Lilly, and the first few scares brought on by MAMA.
