Halloween Urban Fantasy Blog Hop

Welcome to the Halloween Urban Fantasy Blog Hop! Hosted by the lovely Yelena Casale. We're celebrating a week of fun urban fantasy goodness with giveaways and contests. Blog hop runs October 24th - October 31st. Check out all of the participants on their blogs and enter to win awesome prizes!

First, it's time for some Q&A

1. What do you love about the urban fantasy genre (reading and writing)?
Urban fantasy takes everything I loved about fantasy as a kid--cool creatures, magical powers and crazy adventures--and puts it into our world. In a UF setting, you could be living next door to a dragon, or possess mystical abilities, or date a vampire, or be destined to the save the planet, or... With almost no restrictions, the possibilities are endless. All you need for UF is a vivid imagination. That's why I love reading and writing this genre.
Who can possibly hate dragons?

2. Who is the sexiest supernatural creature? Who’s the scariest?
Almost any creature can become sexy or scary, if written well. Although, zombies as sexy still creep me out...too much Walking Dead. But I digress. I'd have to say the sexiest for me are probably shifters, something about all that animal magnetism. Scariest, yeah zombies. Not for the scare factor as much as the gross factor.
Not sexy.
3. If you could make any supernatural creature, what would it look like and what powers would it have?
The creatures in my current series are my ideal. They have various psychic powers, some have telepathy or telekinesis; others can control the elements; and still more have...well that's a surprise. You'll have to read to find out, but I'm intrigued by the idea of using the mind as a weapon. It delves into so many different areas from a story and character perspective. Plus, the results of that type of power can be awe-inspiring or terrifying, depending on its user.
For me personally, I'd like teleportation. Imagine the amount of time I'd save not having to sit in traffic! Or maybe telekinesis, but I'd probably become really lazy.

4. Do you have any Halloween rituals?
Friends have a party every year. However, this year there's been a battle amongst said friends over who will host. I suggested a robot battle to determine the winner. Alas, I was overruled.
Fight like a robot. ;)

5. Walking at midnight in a forest on Halloween – crazy, scary or adventurous?
      AWESOME! Where we meeting?
Hope it's a full moon!

6. What is your worst fear?
Not so much of a fear as a phobia. I'm ridiculously spooked out by mirrors. Seriously, inverse reality! Think about it.

7. What is one of your character’s worst fear?
Sera from CODE BLACK is deathly afraid of hurting someone with her abilities. It's happened once before...

8. What is your favorite Urban Fantasy novel?
Cruel! This question is too hard. I can't possibly pick one. But two of my favorites series are Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series and Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. I also love a ton of books in the Paranormal Romance genre, which shares some similar traits to Urban Fantasy.

 9. Who is your favorite Urban Fantasy hero/heroine?
Again this is not right. But I've got to go with Bones from Jeanine Frost. He is just too delectable...a yummy vampire. Heroine is a tie between Kate Daniels from Ilona Andrews and Cat from Jeaniene Frost.

10. Which hero/heroine would you love to be on Halloween?
I'm going as Katniss this year. Not Urban Fantasy, but a worthy heroine nonetheless. Pictures to follow in a later post.

  2. Tina,
I agree on the Zombies, definitely high creep factor. And I also enjoyed the Kate Daniels series-they get better as they go. I liked the spin-off, Gunmetal Magic, the best.
Your corgi boy is so cute! Here's the pics of ours - http://fantasypoweredbylove.com/for-writers/corgis-for-those-that-love-them/.

  4. Corgis are getting all the love today! Zombies, not so much. But you should watch Fido and maybe you can see some of that animal magnetism in a zombie . . .LOL

  6. I've gotta say, I'm with you on the zombie thing. How could anybody write a zombie love story? I just don't see the appeal.

  7. I've been wanting to read a zombie love story myself, because I just don't get it either. Ewwww. Just ew. But if someone can pull it off, I want to know how. I'll meet you in the woods...with the body. ;-)
