Special Monthly Monday
Edition: Goal Setting

A person far smarter than I once said that goals are better than resolutions. And another - mostly likely smarter - person also said that goals have a greater chance of coming to fruition if you write them down. So, in honor of these smart people, here's my Top Three Writing Goals for 2012:
  1. Get feedback from beta readers, then finish edits on CODE BLACK and send to agent by end of January.
  2. Finish WIP - sequel to BLOOD BOND - with Yelena Casale by summer.
  3. Finish two individual WIPs by December.
I've set firm, doable goals with target deadlines to increase my chances of success. I also have weekly and monthly check-ins that are small goals to try and get to the larger ones. I'm certain to have setbacks, but the more I can stick to hitting my targets, the better off I'll be. How about you?

What are your goals for 2012? Do you have deadlines to complete them? Do you have steps in place to make them realities?

  1. I like to set deadlines for my goals. It makes them feel more tangible. Happy New Year, Tina!

  2. I like this idea, Tina!

I set goals, but I'm never sure when they'll get finished, but I know it will eventually. I have a couple of WIP, thus when I'm stuck in one, I can move to another one which is in a later stage of edits than the others.

Since I've just had the second book in a series published, I feel I've got a foot hold, so to speak. I feel that I should be able to complete at least two novels this year and possibly a novella.

  3. Great goals! Happy new year and good luck. I'm going to write a short story a month and revise three of my manuscripts. Lots of work!

  4. Thanks for sharing your goals! Here's to 2012 and seeing them to the finish line. Happy New Year!

  5. Great list, Tina! Those are very obtainable goals that I'm sure you're going to surpass in 2012! You and I are on a similar wavelength with creating writing goals/resolutions for 2012 that are obtainable (I just wrote my post on this yesterday *smile*).

One of my goals is to write 2 WIPs/novels at one time for the challenge the experience can provide <-- I know you're probably already familiar with those :)

Good luck in 2012! Can't wait to see what this year has in store for you :D

  6. You have an excellent plan! I definitely set goals and deadlines. They help keep me focused. With my second book releasing in February, a short story in a week, and book 3 by the end of the year, I certainly have my work cut out for me. ;) We'll have to keep each other motivated!

  7. Awesomely reasonable goals! I have no doubt you can do it. And a co-author WiP? Fun, isn't it?

    Happy New Year! :)

I left an award for you at my blog.

  8. Great and manageable goals Tina! Knowing you, you won't have any problem reaching all of them. :)
